How much does it cost to polish fuel and clean the tank?
The cost is a function of size of the fuel tank, amount of fuel remaining in the tank and the level and type of contamination in the tank. Additionally, travel time, accessibility to the tank, and other environmental factors and requirements which must be accommodated will be factored into the cost of our service.
How do I know if I have a fuel contamination problem?
A few possible indicators of fuel contamination are as follows:
Engine runs roughly, or not at all.
Fuel filter(s) clogged or require continual replacement or cleaning.
Reduced flow from fuel lines or clogged completely.
Excessive smoke from exhaust.
Engine does not start easily.
How do I prepare for a service call from Southeast Tank Services?
If you can, make access to your tank as easy as possible. If it is within your ability to do so, reduce the level of fuel in the tank to between 10% and 25%. It is important to leave some fuel in the tank. The remaining fuel will be used as a carrying agent to transfer out the contaminents from the tank. The contaminated fuel drawn from the tank is filtered to remove contaminants and returned to the tank continuously until the tank is free of contamination. Also, present our staff with any details you may have about your tank location, size, construction and access. Sharing the details will reduce the time we spend to provide our service and the resulting bill.
What are the common types of contamination?
The most common types are rust, water, varnish, and microbial growth.
This is a fuel sample from a tank contaminated with water. Here, you can see the diesel floating on top of dirty water:
Here, you can see a large amount of Microbial growth (Algae) removed from a back-up generator supply tank:
Here, you can see a handle full of rust we filtered out of an older steel tank. Over time these tanks will begin rusting due to condensation and water contamination.
Here you can see a large amount of varnish material that began coming loose in the tank when new ethanol fuel was introduced:
